Artist's Comments

As progress shots were requested, I figured I would toss this up. The Leigh Rear image from CG start to finish, a good one to go with since it is so simplistic. begins with solids on lineart and goes from there, very self explanatory. Gives a good idea about how I CG in Painter about 1/2 of the time. I sometimes go from lights to darks, and sometimes do in betweens. It depends on how I feel when I begin, really, and if I am painting 100% digitally or not. Before this gets too wordy, it was drawon on typing paper, with solids and BG done in Photoshop and all the rest done in Painter.
Thanks~

It's always nice to see how artists do their colouring and what not. Thanks for sharing :)

This is awesome - it's great to see how you color. Thanks for posting it.

It looks like you went from darks to lights here. Question: if you do that, how do you make sure that you're consistent with skin color from picture to picture? I always start with lights and add shadows, because if you start with the darkest color, your flat colors (step 1) will be different each time.

Anyway, awesome work, and I hope I'll eventually be able to color as well as you do.

Start with darkshades and add highlights! Why didn't I think of that before?! I've been trying to find a style that pleases me and I think I may have found one thanks to you. Thanks bundles, Mister Axer! I learn so much from observing other artists.

good to see the progress etc, I'd say i actually like the third picture best out of the lot...the last looks so much like HTK work, and...a lot of people are using his style lately it tends to get so samey to see...it still looks good of course, but, I just think the third one is the best, looks far more natural too!

still great work!
